JMA has provided on-call civil design and project management services for various project types at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) since our inception in 2011. One of JMA’s first projects was the Lawrence Road Safety Improvement Study where JMA led the preparation of a roadway and intersection study to evaluate traffic and pedestrian safety issues along a 500 ft stretch of Lawrence Road at the Berkeley Lab facility. The roadway geometry, the close spacing of crosswalks, and the numerous driveways made this a very complicated site from a safety perspective. The study, completed in 2011, included pedestrian and vehicular traffic counts, data evaluation, stopping site distance analysis, parking evaluation, and improvement recommendations in accordance with AASHTO and MUTCD design guidelines.
