What a fun day at Topgolf for JMA’s 2023 holiday PAR-tee. Our team is truly the driving force behind every success at JMA and it was great to have them, friends, and their families together to celebrate the holidays and accomplishments from the past year. Happy Holidays and New Year from JMA!

JMA’s Managing Principal, Jon Marshall, PE and President, Ethan Hartsell, attended the Port of Stockton’s 90th Anniversary Celebration this past Saturday. Having worked with the Port since 2014 providing Track Design and Master Planning services, JMA was honored to celebrate this momentous occasion with the Port.

JMA is thrilled to announce a momentous milestone within our firm! It is with immense pride and excitement that we reveal the promotion of one of our most dedicated and talented staff members, Mohammed Abushaban, PE, to the position of Principal Engineer and JMA’s newest shareholder. This promotion is a testament to Mohammed’s unwavering commitment, exceptional skills, and invaluable contributions to our Clients success.

Mohammed joined JMA in 2016 and has led some of JMA’s most significant projects, including the California High-Speed Rail CP4 project where he successfully obtained approval for two (2) BNSF shoofly designs to facilitate the construction of the new grade separations and has successfully led over 30 at-grade crossing improvement projects. Not only is he one of JMA’s leading rail experts but he is also an amazing father to his 2 children, a BBQ pit master, and a dear friend.

We wholeheartedly congratulate Mohammed on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to the countless successes that await us as we embark on this journey together.

Cheers to a promising future, Mohammed!

The JMA Civil team celebrated some internal achievements with a Summer BBQ Party. As a mostly remote civil engineering firm, we know it’s important to get together throughout the year. We always mix up our events and try to include family as much as possible. It was a great time with friends, family, and a little competitive lawn game fun!

The Poso Avenue Shoofly entered operation in 2022 and was designed by JMA as part of the California High-Speed Rail Program’s Construction Package 4 (CP4), supporting the design-build contractor California Rail Builders – a joint venture between Ferrovial Construction and Griffith Company.

These tracks are temporary and allow for High-Speed Rail structures to be constructed without disturbing the movement of goods and people. Once High-Speed Rail construction is completed for this segment, the shoofly track is dismantled, and the main track is restored for regular train operations.

JMA led the design of two adjacent shooflies of BNSF mainline for California High-Speed Rail’s CP4 in Wasco.  Working closely with BNSF, a single long shoofly was modified to two shorter shooflies, which includes the Poso Avenue Shoofly seen here.

In addition to designing over 32,000 feet of new mainline and shoofly tracks, JMA coordinated all utility relocation submittals with BNSF (45 applications), designed a 15,000-foot relocation of Level 3 fiber line through Wasco, and led the CPUC applications for 10 new and modified crossings.  JMA additionally performed independent technical review of the High-Speed Train and associated project drainage for a 3-mile segment through Wasco.

JMA’s Firm Day for 2023 was a huge success! We were blown away by the evident preparation, topical depth, passion for the topics presented, and engagement and conversation throughout our day of training. Special thanks to Allene, Katie, Araceli and Mohammed for the planning and organizing.

JMA is looking forward to a productive and successful new year with a great team!

JMA opted for a cozy Italian dinner party for this year’s holiday party at Il Fornaio. It was a great time seeing our mostly remote team in person to celebrate the holidays and the end of the year.
